Laughter (& Music) is the best medicine

If your one of those people, that has claimed in the past, there’s not enough going on in Lincoln, keep reading. Recently our great city has seen the beginning of new events, openings of shops, bars, pubs and much more, adding a bit more variety to Lincoln’s social scene. One particular recent discovery has kept the Mojo20 collective entertained on Monday nights for well over a month now, and we want you to know about it, take advantage of it and enjoy it as much as we have! Every Monday night at the universities Zing cafe, one of our nearest and dearest friends, the incredibly handsome Ed Carfrae has been holding a free comedy night, charging nothing for entry, but providing incredible acts every week, from all over the UK.

How could this possibly be free I hear you ask? Well to be honest, I don’t have an answer for you either, but it’s flipping brilliant and I encourage all of you to use your Monday evenings wisely and go check it out for yourself! Of course, we’re a music based site and therefore had to come up with a gimmick so we could shamelessly plug something that has nothing to do with us… Soooooo, here are a few of our favourite comically charged songs and music videos, proving that comedy and music do go hand in hand!

Stu’s choices:

Foo Fighters / Learn To Fly (featuring Tenacious D)FF
This classic video for one of the now iconic bands earlier hits, was a music television highlight back in the early 2000’s. Seen it a million times now, but was great at the time.

The Lonely Island featuring Michael Bolton / Jack SparrowLI and MB
One of my favourite spoof songs of all time. How on earth did they come up with the idea for that! Michael Bolton turns up with a Pirates of the Caribbean obsession and turns an otherwise sexy r ‘n’ b song into an homage to Johnny Depp. Fair enough lads!

Paul Simon / You Can Call Me AlPS
With a cameo and helping hand from Chevy Chase; it’s an 80’s classic with a dry, subtle humour to it. Not to mention…Blinding tune!

Rob’s choices:

Flight of the Conchords / I’m Not CryingFOTC
Everyone at Mojo20 is a massive fan of this comedy duo and this is a personal favourite of mine. With comedy genius lyrics and an emotionally charged video to match, this is music comedy at its finest.

Mumford & Sons / Hopeless WandererM&S
By no means is this a comedy song but the video is nothing but comedy. Featuring comedians such as Ed Helm, Jason Bateman, Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis; each taking on a member of the band and essentially…taking the piss. Kudos to Mumford & Sons for being willing to have the piss taken out of them.

Bloodhound Gang / Bad TouchBG
Probably one of the most famous “funny music videos”. Definitely one of the funniest music videos I used to watch whilst growing up. What else was I going to do instead of watch a band dressed as monkey’s running around Paris?

The next comedy at Zing Cafe is TONIGHT!! For more information; visit the Facebook page here!
