Jamie T / Don’t You Find

Five years is a long time. Five years ago; it was 2009. That feels like ages away. 2009 was the last time we heard anything new from Jamie T and since then, he’s kind of gone off everyone’s radar a little bit. Admittedly, the only time I went back and listened to him was following the unfortunate death of Bob Hoskins as he features in the video for Jamie T’s single, Sheila.

Well, it’s now 2014 and recently, we were treated to brand new Jamie T. The brand new Jamie T single I kind of forgot I wanted. I was expecting to hate the new single because I’d been waiting so long for it but when I heard it played on Zane Lowe’s show, I fell in love with it. Welcome back Mr.T (No. Not that Mr.T).

Throughout the first two albums, there wasn’t really a difference in the sound whereas this track hints towards a maturing sound for third album, Carry On The Grudge. If ‘Don’t You Find’ is the consequence, it’s a new direction that is undeniably welcome.

An honourable mention should also be made towards the video. Like the majority of his videos, Jamie has chosen to go down the simple video route as to not steal the attention from the song itself (presumably). That and any excuse to have a hot woman swaying/dancing to your smooth guitar playing.

This has fast become one of my favourite Jamie T songs (probably why it took me so long to finish this review. Because when I listen to it, I listen to it A LOT) and I can’t wait to pleasure my ears* with the whole third album when it’s released on September 29th.

*Apologies for how impudent that might sound!
