The Maccabees / Marks To Prove It

on

Last Wednesday saw the release of new single ‘Marks To Prove It’ from my favourite band, The Maccabees. A week later, they’ve released the music video for it so what better way to celebrate than with a review?

Do I like the new material or do I think they’ve had their day? You’ll have to carry on reading to find out! (If you know me, I think you already know the answer to this but read the rest still yeah?)

I had the pleasure of hearing this song performed live twice when I went to see them last year in Liverpool and Sheffield where I took an instant liking to it. It maintains the now infamous Maccabees sound that myself and many others enjoy. It slotted in perfectly with classic tracks such as First Love, Love You Better, Pelican and the majority of their hit singles. Marks To Prove It has already become XFM’s track of the week so hopefully this will give the band further exposure which they deserve, they’ve worked hard since their debut in 2005 and through hard work and commitment, third album, Given To The Wild credited them with an ever larger, mainstream fan base thanks to radio time and headline festival appearances over the past few years. You could say; they’ve worked so hard, they have the “marks to prove it”. See what I did there? You don’t get wit like that in Q Magazine!

If the rest of the album is anything like this, we are in for an absolute treat of an album and I certainly can’t wait for it to be released. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long! I know 100% that it will definitely be worth the wait though. Trust me. I’ve heard a few other new songs live and they were all just as brilliant as this. If not better!

Unfortunately, I don’t think enough people have heard this song yet due to the fact that on its release, a Zayn Malik solo demo was also released which caused both excitement and outrage amongst One Direction fan-girls. Pfft, fan-girling is so stupid.

Anyways…NEW MACCABEES! YAAAYY! WOO!! SWOON!! (It’s acceptable when I fan-girl.)
