Two Door Cinema Club have been a staple in my favourite bands list since their 2010 debut, Tourist History . Following this up in 2012 with Beacon. Since then, the band have been on a hiatus of sorts until last night where they dropped their new single on Annie Mac’s radio show. It’s been a long time coming but as the track title questions…I’m more than ready. And it’s very clear that they are.

Are We Ready is a plethora of genres blending seamlessly together whilst maintaining the classic Two Door sound. As an insight of what we can expect from third album, Gameshowit’s clear the band are back with a new found level of confidence ready for the live shows starting with Glastonbury next weekend. I’m interested to catch their performance from the comfort of my sofa and hope we hear at least another new song to confirm my feelings on the potential new direction the band are steering towards.

Are We Ready isn’t as much as a floor-filler as some of their now classic hits and it will never precede Undercover Martyn as my favourite Two Door track but I’d say it’s creeping its way in to my top 10 for definite.

I’m also very intrigued following what Alex Trimble recently said about their new sound:

“We’re not embracing the pop that’s going on now in a melodic or structural sense. The two biggest influences for me were Prince and Bowie – both total pioneers who straddled that line between out-there pop and avant-garde craziness”.

The band will no doubt be touring with this new album later in the year and I’ll be doing my best to attend one of the gigs. I’ve seen them before and they are a truly brilliant band sounding exactly like they do on studio albums. For a seemingly shy person, Trimble is also a fantastic live entertainer with an abundance of energy. You should definitely try to see them live if you haven’t already as I know you won’t be disappointed. PS. No. That isn’t “Bradley off of Eastenders” in the band now. He just looks even more like him since growing his hair out.
