Nick Valensi or “The Strokes guitarist” as he’s more commonly known, has broken away from the band and is the final member to embark on a new musical journey with their own side project. Under the guise of CRX; Valensi along with Richie Follin (Guards), Ralph Alexander (The Dose), Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley (The Reflections) have dropped their debut single, Ways To Fake It and…it’s brilliant.
It’s a brilliant introduction to the band and what we can expect with it’s poppy-synth serving as a brilliant backdrop the percussion and guitar riffs throughout. Valensi serves as a brilliant frontman after being in the shadow of Julian Casablancas for so long. Due to the riffs, there’s an early Strokes feel to the song which will only garner more fans and attention.
To summarize, there’s definitely no faking it here; CRX are a brilliant band and have come up with a fantastic debut track that leaves you wanting more. Luckily, we don’t have to wait too long as the band’s debut album, New Skin is released 28th October. And, as if having one of the best guitarists around fronting the band shouldn’t be reason enough to be excited, the album is also produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal fame. Expect big things from CRX and watch this space when the album drops for a full review.
