An interesting and poignant Throwback Thursday this week as it’s almost a whole thirty years since Prince released ‘Sign O’ The Times’. His ninth studio album, and one of his more iconic, was released at the end of March 1987, and for what would have been the thirtieth anniversary of the release of this incredible pop record, we’ll be looking to the fact that only a month later we’ll be remembering Prince on the one year anniversary of his untimely death.
Now we all know Prince, we all know his work, how great he was and how great he would have continued to be would he still be here and recording today, so this doesn’t need to be a retrospective review as I’d normally create for you on a Thursday, but more, a quick reminder of his genius and the fact that we’ve been without him almost an entire year. ‘Sign O’ The Times’ just seems so important at this point as we live in politically turbulent times on this here planet earth, but at the same time, this records soulful alt-pop foundation is exactly what we all need to brush off all the crap. Check out tracks like ‘I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man’ for its upbeat presentation and danceability. Don’t forget the endlessly sexy ‘U Got The Look’ featuring side vocals by Sheena Easton. Then of course there’s the title track… say no more.
Treat yourself, throw some Prince on today, turn the radio off and immerse in great music. Simple.
