As with our reports last night of new music by Mr Jukes, we’re more than a couple of days late to the party here as well. But as we mentioned in that review, it’s impossible to ignore a release like this and it deserves all of our attention. This recent single release by Australian super group Pond has kick started the summer early and a return with new music also signals a return to form as ‘Sweep Me Off My Feet’ may just be everything we wanted from the Perth natives.
Such as the last three albums by Pond, their upcoming record ‘The Weather’ set for release on the 5th of May, has been produced by Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker and of course it’s smothered in psych, as expected and it features an ever changing blend of fuzzy and gritty synths, with a backing of whimsical psych synths that just set the tone nicely for the good weather to return. It’s an emotive cry for love but stands as a good time track, reminiscent of a lot of Tame Impala’s music from their last album ‘Currents’. Again, not surprising, a lot like his producer cohort Mark Ronson, Parker has a very vivid idea of what he likes to create and what he can do best, so he produces a very signature sound on most of his projects. Not a negative for a Tame Impala fan like myself and since Parker is a former/occasional member of the band, I expect Pond fans have all but come to accept and adore this. The track is a wonderful reintroduction to Pond as we’ve not heard new music by them since very early 2015, and we couldn’t be happier to have them back, especially since they appear to have brought the weather with their music. Don’t take my word for it however, give it a listen yourself and join a long list of people that can’t wait for the 5th of May.
