MARILYN MANSON / WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE

It was widely reported yesterday that Marilyn Manson had unveiled a brand new single ahead of the release of his upcoming tenth studio record ‘Heaven Upside Down’ and it’s as brutal, aggressive and dark as he’s ever been before. With elements of punk and a desperately tweaked vocal ‘We Know Where You Fucking Live’ is a murky and hellish track, with all the grit and dirt of his earliest works. With a career spanning close to thirty years and at a seasoned 48 years old, Manson is a legitimate legend in the music business, an icon of alternative metal and hard rock and as enjoyable as it was at the time, he did venture into a slightly more, commercially acceptable style let’s say, when he released tracks like the cover of Gloria Jones/Soft Cell classic ‘Tainted Love’, as well as showcasing a consistently dark but tamer sounding cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Personal Jesus’. Both great tracks, no doubt, and with age and maturity, there’s no surprise that approach and style may alter a little. However in 2017 with album number ten on the way, that all seems to have been thrown out and a frantic, psychotic, industrial sound has re-emerged, screaming “We know where you fucking live” against a backdrop of screaming guitars and angry percussion, and I’d be willing to bet, you won’t be hearing this on Radio 1 anytime soon. Even the chilling end which has Manson whispering, is enough to make you remember fearing the man who lit the nineties up with his unique and dangerous music and actions.

The track has been doing the rounds on his live shows and fans must be in agreement that it’s a killer, as there are multiple videos posted on YouTube of this brand new and unknown entity, obviously capturing their attention and harking the beginning of a new age of Mobscenity. The track clearly points out a society in which we’re all being tracked and watched, with constant surveillance and transparency becoming an everyday normality, whether you know it or accept, or not. As reported earlier in the year, Manson will be hitting the road for a world tour soon, including a number of dates in the UK. A incredible opportunity to see a living legend and surreal performer do what he does best, but with the sound of the new material as debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show only last night, these shows may have just reached a new level of importance and brutality.
