CIRCA WAVES – ENGINE SHED, LINCOLN

So you’ll know by now that we attended the incredibly successful 2Q Festival in Lincoln yesterday and as would be expected for the day after an all day inner city, multi venue festival, here at Mojo20.com, we’re not feeling too wonderful. However what we do have on our side is the fantastic collection of memories from the event and no one memory stands out more prominently than the festival headline slot at the Engine Shed in Lincoln, when Liverpudlian indie rock quartet Circa Waves performed to a raucous crowd and finished things off in outstanding fashion.

Baring in mind that at the same time, seven other venues had headliners performing, ranging from Peace to Trampolene and Tom Grennan to Pulled Apart By Horses. Strong competition that’d surely divide and polarise the remaining festival goers. However no impact was felt and the crowd was large and energetic. Good thing to as the band weren’t pulling any punches as they smashed aggressively through hits from their first two albums, delivering a show that had no body feeling they’d chosen the wrong stage. The crowd were attentive and clearly fans of Circa Waves as they sang back every word, danced from start to finish and even got involved in some light crowd surfing. The headliners that were revealed months and months ago on the first wave of the line up announcements were clearly a popular and wise choice, especially since the release of their latest album ‘Different Creatures’ this past March, which the crowd obviously knew. The band powered through their set before saying their goodbyes, only to return for an encore that included stand out tracks ‘Fire That Burns’ and ‘T-Shirt Weather’. What an incredible end to an all around amazing day, and what stamina by a crowd that had endured hours and hours of music, dancing, drinking and travelling from venue to venue, their enthusiasm never waning or depleting. A wonderful effort by everybody on both sides of the stage barriers, and all culminating in a magical conclusion to a unique and memorable day.
